Brewery ‘de Prael’ was started in 2002 under the name of ‘de Parel’ (the Pearl). Unfortunately this name already existed and therefore the name had to be changed and they chose the current name. Six years after the establishment the brewery moved to its current location at the Oudezijdsvoorburgwal. In this building they installed a larger brew installation that could meet the higher demand. Here in 2011 the brewery also opened their tasting room.
The brewery employs people with disabilities, who have difficulties to find work elsewhere. This gives the brewery a social function. Brouwerij De Prael was the first Dutch brewery who chose to work this way.
The beers from the brewery are named after famous Dutch folk singers. In the tasting room, songs of these famous Dutchies are played. This makes you experience a typically Dutch brewery.
The brewery has relatively a wide range of beers. This varies in taste, color and alcohol percentage. The brewery does not only brew in a Dutch and Belgian styles, but also several German styles. It is remarkable that they occasionally brew beers upon request for third parties. An example of this is a cocoa beer initiated by Metropolitan, also the brewery makes the beers for cafe Kop van Jut.
