Description
The Eye Film museum is an institute located in the Northern part of Amsterdam and is fully dedicated to cinematography (the art and technology of making films). The EYE institute, as it is now, is established in 2010 by merging the Filmmuseum, Holland Film, Film Bank and Dutch Institute for Film Education. They have set themselves a common goal, to preserve all film heritage for future generations, both Dutch films and foreign films displayed in the Netherlands. The collection itself and the knowledge they have in the field of restoration, are internationally highly acclaimed. In addition, the Eye institute aims to uplift the Dutch film culture to a higher level. The breathtaking building of the Eye film museum is located opposite side of the Central Station, at the North shore of the IJ. It was designed by the Austrian architect Roman Delugan and Elke Delugan – Meissl and was opened in early 2012. The EYE has four cinemas and an exhibition hall of 1.200 square meters. There is also educational room, a film lab, a shop and a restaurant and bar with an amazing panoramic view at the terrace.
Close to the EYE Film museum you can find the Noorderlicht cafe, which is worth a visit.
