Centraal Station Amsterdam is the largest railway station in Amsterdam as well as a major national railway hub. Centraal Station Amsterdam is the second busiest station in the country along with the most visited national heritage site of the Netherlands. Designed by Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers, it was first opened in the year 1889 and features a Gothic/Renaissance Revival station building along with a cast iron platform roof that spans over approximately 40 meters. Over the years, major construction and renovation work have been underway in order to accommodate the North-South Line route, which is now scheduled to open in the year 2017.
Centraal Station Amsterdam is not only a place that serves as a major transportation hub, it also is a place filled with a long and rich history, unique designs and an internationally recognized structure.
