The Great Market Hall Budapest

The Great Market Hall Budapest or Central Market Hall is the largest and oldest indoor market in Budapest. This old market hall is a massive market that was created from the idea from the first mayor of Budapest, Karoly Kamermayer and it was his largest investment.

Located at the end of the famous pedestrian shopping street of Vaci utca and just on the Pest side of Fovam Square’s Liberty Bridge, it is easily accessible and extremely hard to miss. Designed and built by Samu Pecz around the year 1897, the market features an immense variety of shops and stalls spread out over three different floors. With a total area size of 10,000 square meters, it is nothing short of extremely impressive in both size and its architectural design.

Each day, the great market hall budapest is filled with locals and tourists, hoping to snatch up a few trinkets and treasures, foods and souvenirs. The only day it is closed is on Sunday. Wandering around the market, you will find yourself amongst things such as fresh produce, delicious pastries and candies, spices like paprika and tokaji and also the world famous deep-fried snack, langos. With so much to see, do and taste while there, it is possible to spend hours exploring the old market hall.
