Margaret Island
Margaret Island is located in the middle of the Danube River and provides both locals and tourists a fantastic escape from all the hustle and bustle of the city center, Budapest. Although not far from it, the short distance allows for easy access and a place where you can enjoy beautiful natural landscapes, recreational activities and parks.
The island is 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) long and 500 meters (550 yards) wide and spreads out over a total of .965 square kilometers (238 square acres). Throughout all this land, guests will find a wide variety of sports establishments including the Palatinus Water Park, which just so happens to be the largest open air swimming complex in all of Budapest.
In addition, the island also boasts a tennis stadium, an athletics center and even a 5.35 kilometer (3.33 mile) long rubber-coated running track. Wander around the park and enjoy even more sights including a tiny zoo, the Centennial Memorial, the Music Fountain, the Music Well and a beautiful small Japanese Garden.
